rocked that test

100 questions later, I am fully expecting to be annouced as a CERTIFIED STUDENT LEADER! They will post scores at 8pm local time.

So todays sessions were great. I think I like yesterdays the best since they had to with Roberts Rules of order and effective meetings.

the test did have a lot of questions about parliamentary procedure....

The weather was great again today-82 and sunny. I got about 20 minutes of pool time in where I did a bit of studying.

Met a group from minnesota...we are going to hollywood tonight.

Leaving Cali tomorrow morning. two layovers--st louis and atlanta. probably at RDU around 10.

not going to drive to HPU tomorrow night, Ill wait till Monday morning.

Im looking out the window of my hotel again---its beautiful with the sunset and mountains and all the commercial lights.

Oh, first experience with bad smog last night...couldnt stop coughing.

okay, out for the night.

see you soon folks

exam time

another few sessions behind me, and now its time to take the certified student leader exam! heading down there now to take a 100 question comprhensive test of the conference...WISH ME LUCK!

fun evening

Just got back from a spur of the moment decision that turned into an all afternoon event. Took public transportation to Venice Beach. Got there in time for sunset, but it took 2.5 hours. Then I made my way to Hollywood--Chinese Theater, Ave. of Stars...

Back at the hotel, about to go to citiwalk. pictures tomorrow morning!

friday morning pictures

sessions

sessions for the day have ended...its around 3:15. I am super energized with what we did this morning. Part of me was eager to write down as many quotes as I could from the lectures, but another part was buzzing with ideas to bring back home.

Here are some of todays good points:
'everyone has interests feelings and concerns, they just might not be yours'
find ways to empower others
look within and rediscover what you are capable of
seeing is believing transforms into believing is seeing

I have like three pages of SGA media/promotion/publicity ideas.

So the rest of the afternoon is ours. Im going to spend some time putting my notes together, then its CITYWALK!

pictures in the next post...

From yesterday's session where we did team building activities

night and morning

So last night after the final session, we were free to do whatever. I was exhausted from flying, but decided to walk around. Today we get off around 4, I think I might go to citi walk and get some good pictures for Ashley in admissions with my ambassador polo! :D

Right now its 7:10am. Im sitting in my room--20th floor--enjoying my amazing view. I was awake around 5am California time and looked out the window and there was a lot of traffic! Much more than I thought there would be at least.

Im about to put all my notes into my netbook computer. Since Im here to become a Certified Student Leader, there are a set of sessions that Im required to go to. I take the test Saturday and the results are posted by 9pm I believe.

weather is beautiful here. I think its supposed to be like 82 and sunny today.

Im hoping to blog soon again, sorry its taken over a day to get these first few posts up!

first day's session

Here are some of the best quotes of the day:
'obligation of excellance--expectations are higher'
'why not now? why not me?'
'walk with greatness, run with opportunity'
'say yes to someone else's dreams--our words affect people'
'You make a difference'

two really good anecdotes:
if you feel that you cant make a difference because you are one person, think again. rosa parks was one woman. rosa parks said one word. with one syllable, she made a nation blush. on dec 1 1955 did she know one person could make a difference. she was asked to relinquish her seat to a white gentleman. she would not. one woman said one word. 'no'

now in our soceity when one wrongs another, we harass them until it is right, take them to court, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. thats not the way it is inthe bemba tribe of africa. When one wrongs another, the transgressor is surrounded at the town square by the whole village. every person in the village takes turns praising the transgressor. they could say anything as long as it came from their heart, filling up the person so that they are whole again. at the end, a huge celebration, and the transgressor is welcomed back into the community. the idea is that if someone hurt another, there was something missing in their life--a void. that void needed to be filled, at it was the village's responsibility.

so the speakers were dynamic the first day. There were a lot of powerful activities. The second speaker didnt do much of a lecture but a series of fun team building activities, which is cool because we were out of our seats constantly meeting people with every event we did.

In the final speakers presentation, we watched a video that emotionall stirred most of the audience. Im hoping to grab the video and bring it to HPU!

travel

Well my flights went like clockwork. Left RDU at 7:40, got to Texas, and then Burbank around 12. On my second flight, we actually flew over the Grand Canyon--awesome.

So I got to the hotel and registered for the conference just 10 minutes before the first session/grand opening. At this point I dropped off the HPU blanket for the silent auction--thank you office of community relations/administration!

Its taken a while for the blogs to start...open internet was harder to get than I thought would be.

See the next few posts....
